Riddick Drafted in 5th Round by Arizona Cardinals!!!
The 158th pick went to Shaq Riddick, a defensive end out of West Virginia. Riddick is 6-foot-6, 255 pounds and ran a 4.65 40-yard dash at his Pro Day. He transferred to West Virginia out of Gardner-Webb in 2014, and had seven sacks that year.
“We made history,” Riddick said by phone Saturday. “This is what we’ve been waiting on since high school, Little League — all of that. We knew what time it was.”
The 6-6, 255-pound Riddick weighed about 175 pounds coming out of high school and had to start his collegiate career at the FCS level. He thrived on the field for Gardner-Webb University, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in three years, and transferred to West Virginia for his final season of eligibility because he wanted to prove he could hold his own at college football’s highest level.
Riddick appeared in all 13 games for the Mountaineers and started eight of them. He finished the season with 27 tackles, including 11 for loss with seven sacks.
